The Vancouver-based artblog-extraordinaire Booooooom selected my image of an intersection in Milan for inclusion in the Small Victories exhibition in Hong Kong. Globalization is real, y’all! (Also, in Vancouver)

From the press release: “Small Victories is a photographic celebration of the quietly beautiful, unintentionally funny, people and things all around us. It is these little moments that make life worth living. The work in the show consists entirely of 4×6 photographs, the small physical dimensions of the images is also a reference to the theme.”

The show originally ran in June at the Above Second gallery in the Sheung Wan district of Hong Kong and in September at the Little Mountain Gallery in Vancouver. The awesome 101 finalist images can be viewed online here, at Booooooom. Mine is around midpage.

About the image itself… As I walked the autumn morning streets of Milan, I thought about the life cycles of great cities. A busy intersection stopped me dead in my tracks. Here it was, the urban fate blueprint: the self-assured advance of questionable ideas, overlapping tracks of in/evitable bright futures, the competing priorities of preservation, renovation, innovation. Each consecutive layer presumed a victory over its predecessor, adding up to this glorious clusterfuck. Yet the space remains open, defiantly here and now, always at one’s ready feet.

Моя Маленькая Победа в Гонконге

Известный артблог Booooooom из Ванкувера выбрал моё фото из Милана для участия в выставке «Маленькие Победы» в Гонконге. Да здравствует глобализация! (Теперь и Ванкувере)

Из пресс-релиза галереи: «Маленькие Победы» – это фотопраздник в честь негромко красивых, нечаянно смешных, людей и вещей вокруг нас. Это маленькие моменты, ради которых стоит жить. Выставка состоит из фотографий формата 8 на 10, небольшой размер работ – тоже ссылка на тему проекта».

Выставка открылась в июне в галерее Above Second в Sheung Wan районе Гонконга, а в сентябре переместилась в Little Mountain Gallery в Ванкувере, Канада. Прикольные работы-финалисты можно также увидеть на сайте Booooooom. Моя где-то посредине.

Немного про фото… Гуляя по утренним улицам осеннего Милана, я размышлял о жизненных циклах великих городов. На одном оживлённом перекрёстке я остановился как вкопанный. Вот она – схема судьбы города: самоуверенный марш сомнительных идей, пересечение не/избежно светлых будущих, борьба стремлений к самосохранению, реставрации,  инновации. Каждый новый слой предполагает победу над предыдущим; так и складывается этот великолепный п»здец. Однако само место остаётся свободным, вызывающе здесь и сейчас, всегда у чьих-то способных ног.
