I love public art interventions. Recently, I had a chance to visit Sagunt, a (very) small Valencian town in Spain. Its main thoroughfare leading up to the ancient castle and Roman amphitheater featured a brilliant (con)temporary exhibition. FUTUR. 25 artists were commissioned to produce a tapestry for each of the 25 balconies that face the street. The result was amazingly simple and simply amazing. It made me think how presence of art really DOES communicate ideas and ideals of a bright(er) common future, especially in small-town contexts often perceived as “culture”-less … Can you think of other/similar examples? Please, share them with me! And, visit Sagunt! 🙂
